Yeast Mold Agar (YM Agar, YMA)
Catalog No.: AS-1382
Yeast Mold Agar (YM Agar YMA) is a nutrient-rich medium formulated for the cultivation and enumeration of yeasts, molds, and other acid-tolerant microorganisms. Developed according to Wickerham's formulation, it is widely utilized in microbiological laboratories for isolating fungi from mixed microbial populations.
Composition (per liter):
Peptone: 5.0 g
Yeast Extract: 3.0 g
Malt Extract: 3.0 g
Dextrose (Glucose): 10.0 g
Agar: 20.0 g
Final pH: 6.2 ± 0.2 at 25°C
Key Features:
Broad Spectrum Cultivation: Supports the growth of a wide range of yeasts and molds, making it ideal for diverse applications.
Selective Isolation: The medium's composition favors fungal growth while inhibiting bacterial proliferation, especially when acidified or supplemented with selective agents.
Versatile Application: Suitable for use in food and beverage testing, environmental monitoring, and clinical diagnostics.
Applications:
Isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds in food and beverage samples.
Environmental monitoring in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Research studies involving fungal ecology and taxonomy.
Preparation Instructions:
Suspend 41.0 grams of the medium in one liter of purified water.
Heat with frequent agitation to dissolve the medium completely.
Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Cool to 45-50°C before pouring into sterile Petri dishes.
Storage and Stability:
