Chromogenic & Fluorogenic Substrates
Chromogenic and fluorogenic substrates are used in lab assays to detect enzyme activity. Chromogenic substrates produce color changes, while fluorogenic substrates release fluorescent signals, offering higher sensitivity. Widely applied in microbiology, these substrates help in rapid bacterial identification, enzyme assays, and immunoassays. They enable fast and specific differentiation of microbial species, particularly useful for detecting organisms like Escherichia coli (IPTG, X-Gal and MUG).
