King’s B Medium Base (KB Medium) | Fluorescein Production Medium for Pseudomonas
King’s B Medium Base (Pseudomonas Agar F / Flo Agar)
Fluorescein-Enhancing Medium for Pseudomonas Species
Catalog Number: AS-1260
Overview
King’s B Medium Base is a selective and differential culture medium used for the cultivation and differentiation of fluorescent Pseudomonas species, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa, through the enhancement of fluorescein (pyoverdin) pigment production.
Also known as Pseudomonas Agar F or Flo Agar, this medium is widely used in water, environmental, agricultural, and research laboratories. It supports pigment production that can be observed as a yellow-green fluorescence under UV light, enabling visual differentiation of fluorescent Pseudomonas species.
King’s B Medium is referenced for use in water testing workflows as described in ISO 16266, particularly for samples with low background flora, such as bottled and treated waters.
Ausamics King’s B Medium Base is manufactured for consistent performance, reliable pigment expression, and reproducible results.

Principle of the Medium
King’s B Medium Base contains nutrients that promote bacterial growth while enhancing the production of fluorescein, a yellow-green pigment produced by certain Pseudomonas species. When incubated and examined under ultraviolet light, fluorescent strains exhibit a bright green fluorescence, allowing differentiation from non-fluorescent organisms.
Storage & Stability
Store dehydrated medium at 10–25 °C, protected from light and moisture, in a tightly sealed container.
Do not use beyond the expiry date stated on the label. Discard the product if there is any evidence of contamination or deterioration.
Intended Use
For laboratory research and quality-control use only.
Not for human, animal, diagnostic, or therapeutic use.
