King's B Medium Base (Pseudomonas Agar F or Flo Agar) KB Medium Base
CAT No.: AS-1260
King’s B Medium is used for the confirmation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from bottled waters and other types of water with a low background flora, as recommended by ISO 16266. This culture medium, also known as Pseudomonas Agar F or Flo Agar, allows the differentiation of Pseudomonas spp through the enhancement of fluorescein production.
Here are the detailed uses and benefits:
Detection and Differentiation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: This medium is essential for detecting and differentiating Pseudomonas aeruginosa in water samples, particularly in environments with low background flora. It aligns with the standards recommended by ISO 16266 for water testing, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
Subculturing of Fluorescent Pseudomonads: King's B Medium is used for the detection and subculturing of fluorescent pseudomonads from plants and seeds. This application is crucial for agricultural and botanical research, allowing the identification and study of beneficial and pathogenic pseudomonads.
Pigment Production: One of the notable features of King's B Medium is its ability to enhance the production of fluorescein, a yellow-green pigment that fluoresces under ultraviolet light. Certain strains of Pseudomonas species produce this pigment, while others do not, making it a valuable tool for distinguishing between different strains.
Enhanced Fluorescein Production: By enhancing the production of fluorescein, King's B Medium facilitates the study of metabolic activities and pigment production in Pseudomonas species. This property is particularly useful in research and diagnostic laboratories, providing a visual indicator of bacterial presence and activity.
